February Events in Miami and Miami Beach and the OUTCAST Factor

The Miami International Boat Show & Strictly Sail takes place February 17-21, 2011. This is a HUGE event spread over several venues including the Miami Beach Convention Center, the Sea Isle Marina & Yachting Center, just over the Venetian Causeway in Miami, and Strictly Sail at Bayside Marketplace. At the same time the independent, and FREE, Yacht and Brokerage Show in Miami Beach takes place along Collins Avenue and the Indian Creek Waterway. There will be a mind-boggling amount of boats and marine-related vendors between these two shows and we always try to make an effort to attend to check out what’s new, meet up with reps, and salivate over the high-end sportfishing yachts. Admission for the Boat Show varies depending on the amount of days you plan to attend and, as previously mentioned, the Brokerage Show is FREE.
OUTCAST Factor: You may want to charter while you’re deciding to buy.

The 48th Coconut Grove Arts Festival takes place February 19-21, 2011, one of the premier outdoor art festivals in the entire country. After a careful jurying process approximately 360 artists have been selected to exhibit in this year’s festival which also includes musical performances and a global food village. Admission is $10.00 per person per day. Children 12 and under, Metrorail Golden Passport and Patriot Passport holders are free. Residents of Coconut Grove in the 33133 zip code can enjoy the festival for $5.00 per day (proof of residency required).
OUTCAST Factor: Make a gyotaku fish rubbing of your own catch.

Skyward Kites and Miami-Dade Park and Recreation host the 18th Kite Day Kite Festival on Sunday, February 20, 2011, from noon to 5 PM at Haulover Park. This year’s event will be held on the old golf course site and will be bigger and better than ever with more room for kite-flying. Bring your own kite, build a kite for free, or purchase a kite at the festival; there will also be demonstrations, competitions, prizes, music and food vendors. This is truly a beautiful and colorful spectacle and you will be AMAZED, seriously, by how far and how high some of these kites can fly. Admission is FREE, parking is $6.00.
OUTCAST Factor: Come out sailfishing and you can watch a different kind of kite-flying.

The Food Network South Beach Wine & Food Festival presented by Food & Wine takes place February 24-27, 2011. This festival benefits FIU’s School of Hospitality and Tourism Management Teaching Restaurant and the Southern Wine & Spirits Beverage Management Center and features celebrity chefs and hosts participating in tastings, seminars, brunches, dinners and parties all around South Beach as well as several venues in Miami. As of this writing there are 41 individual events, cost of admission varies.
OUTCAST Factor: Catch your own fish and turn it into a culinary masterpiece.

If you’re visiting our area for any of these events make some time to come out fishing with us! Deep sea fishing is one of the most unique activities that our area has to offer and even though all of these events are a lot of fun, it’s nice to take a break from the crush of people and parking and general overload and spend some time on the ocean. This goes for locals, too! In addition, fishing in February is always outstanding with sailfish, wahoo, tuna, kingfish and mackerel in the mix. If you’re interested in fishing, book now, as the best dates go fast. So that’s it...have fun this month...and don’t forget about OUTCAST!
